PPAGLA: Student Photojournalist of the Year

I would like to sincerely thank the Press Photographers Association of Greater Los Angeles for selecting me as the 2017 Student Photojournalist of the Year. Moreover, I would like to give a big THANKS to the Past Presidents and Retired Members Scholarship Fund, and Sara Wood for the $1,000 scholarship and the Nikon camera kit. These items will help me immensely in pursuit of a career in photojournalism.

At the beginning of 2017 I set out a goal to push myself to grow as a photographer. I could not have progressed this far without the help of my friends, family, and mentors. I am eternally grateful for their everlasting support in helping my pursue my career goal as a photojournalist.

I believe that photographs are an invaluable way to communicate across cultures and geographical boundaries. Telling a story with images that others can understand and relate to is something that is fundamental to what I do. Receiving this award at such an early point in my career gives me a sense that I am on the right path to pursue a career in photojournalism.

Moreover, I sincerely congratulate my colleagues that submitted work and their dedication to the craft of photography. I was humbled by the talent and fantastic work presented at the luncheon.

Below is a gallery of the portfolio I submitted to the PPAGLA. Please comment if you have any questions about the photographs and I will reply back!
